Biography
Dr. Stefan Henneking is a Research Associate at the Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences at The University of Texas at Austin. He is a member of the Electromagnetics and Acoustics Group and the Optimization, Inversion, Machine Learning, and Uncertainty for Complex Systems (OPTIMUS) Center. He develops mathematical frameworks and scalable algorithms for large-scale inverse problems, real-time Bayesian inference, uncertainty quantification, optimal experimental design, and digital twins. His research focuses on high-performance computing for wave propagation problems, with applications in acoustic sensing, fiber optics, and tsunami early warning. He holds a BS in Computational Engineering from FAU Erlangen–Nuremberg, an MS in Computational Science & Engineering from Georgia Tech, and an MS and PhD in Computational Science, Engineering, & Mathematics from UT Austin. He is a recipient of the 2025 ACM Gordon Bell Prize.
